Admissions
Our admissions process is straightforward and supportive, designed to meet the unique needs of every young person. This ensures a personalised pathway, guaranteeing a positive transition and successful start to their journey with us.
Pathways to Admission
A young person can secure a place with us through one of three primary commissioning routes, and sometimes funding can be accessed through a combination of these channels —
1. Local Authority Referral
We work closely with Local Authority SEND teams and commissioners, particularly where a student has an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). Local Authority funded placements require a formal referral and a commissioned contract.
2. School Referral
We accept direct referrals from Mainstream Schools and Academies who are seeking specialist, part-time or preventative support for students from their own budgets. The school remains the responsible body for the young person during this placement.
3. Parent/Family Placement
Families may choose to commission and fund a place directly. This is often used to supplement Elective Home Education (EHE) or provide highly specialised support that is not currently available through statutory means. We collaborate with families to tailor the provision to fill specific learning gaps.
Our Process — Ensuring a Good Fit
A successful placement starts with an excellent transition. We maintain a simple, clear process:
1. Initial Enquiry — The family (or commissioning body) connects with us for an informal discussion. We encourage families to connect with us at any point during the process for guidance or support.
2. Assessment — We undertake a personalised assessment or taster session prior to admission. This is vital to confirm that our environment, resources, and educational style are a good fit for the young person’s unique needs, and that we can meet their goals.
3. Placement Confirmation — Once suitability is confirmed and funding is secured, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) is created, and we begin planning for a smooth, supported start.
Stability and Support
We recognise that the educational landscape is complex and sometimes leaves children waiting for the right place and as such we sometimes act as an interim provision, providing immediate, compassionate support and a stable learning environment while your child awaits a formal school placement or a long-term plan.
Crucially, every placement at Out to Learn is guided by:
- Clear objectives and collaborative planning.
- A commitment to ensuring the time spent with us is purposeful and focused on positive progress.
- A commitment to working with all parties to review goals and monitor development.
Restoring a positive relationship with learning provides the essential foundation for a successful return to education.
