How we teach
Our teaching starts with student wellbeing, recognising it as the essential foundation for effective learning and engagement. Our holistic approach delivers tailored support and life skills to build independence and achievement.
Every task is thoughtfully designed to be fun, engaging, and meaningful while remaining aligned with the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. This approach means that while children are having fun and engaging with nature, they are also meeting essential educational outcomes.
At Out to Learn we embrace the philosophy that core skills should be learned actively, not passively. Our sessions are focused on equipping children with the essential tools to succeed, with curriculum areas like English and Maths woven into other activities. We deliberately avoid explicit labels for these subjects, as we understand that naming a lesson “Maths” can sometimes trigger anxiety or resistance for some learners. Instead, we prioritise discovery, ensuring every child feels confident and capable in applying these fundamental skills in real-world, outdoor scenarios.
Our teaching method transforms abstract concepts into tangible, memorable experiences. For example, understanding capacity and volume might involve designing a complex water-moving project outdoors, while units of measurement become immediately relevant when we are building, navigating, or calculating distances.
Literacy skills are enhanced through engaging literature, focused discussion, and verbal games that build confidence in communication and grammar. Whether through competitive games that hone number skills or creative naming activities that cement proper nouns, every task is integrated with the practical, movement-based challenges of the outdoors.
Learning isn’t just about knowledge; it’s about discovering new confidence and unlocking the potential to shape your own world.
